EDITORIAL - By Gary Campbell
The streak continues at California Speedway. Ten races into the 2000 season and we have had ten different winners, how much longer can this go on? I wouldn't think too much longer, But as we have seen you never know in NASCAR. After being a lap down near the half way point Jeremy Mayfield came back strong overcoming extreme tempratures inside the cockpit of his #12 Mobil 1 Ford Taurus to get the win . For much of the Race I thought I would be talking about another win for a rookie driver this season, With Matt Kenseth running incredibly strong after winning the Busch Race the day before. He continues to lead the Rookie points race over Dale Earnhardt Jr. who had a uneventful run today. As a matter of fact most of todays race was uneventful in my eyes until the restart with four to go. On that restart Jeremy Mayfield lost his ignition box and could have lost the race, but quickly switching to his backup he was able to fight off points leader Bobby Labonte for the win. The lack of real action today left me wandering around outside my house fortunately next weeks race at Richmond should be a little more exciting.
Just a quick comment. The #31 of Mike Skinner seemed very good most of the day but, The #3 of Dale Earnhardt seemed bad most of the day. This leads me to believe that the communication between teamates isn't always there I notice this with alot of multi-car teams. With the Roush Team it seems that only the 6 and the 99 are consistant and The 5 and 24 of Hendricks couldn't be more opposite most days. I don't like multi-car teams for those reasons but thats just my opinion.
Well I hope Richmond is more exciting than todays race and maybe we can go for Eleven in a row...Maybe even 34 in a row. Now thats Parity!
